Responsible for checking fluid levels (fuel, grease, and oil) and performing preventative maintenance (lubrication, oil changes, oil/air filters, and oil samples) on all heavy equipment used on the projects. The oiler must also safely operate a lube/grease truck to dispense lubricants to construction equipment. Must be able to take direction and accurately log daily activities, such as oil changes, samples, fuel usage, etc.


Workers should be able to follow specific directions; perform a variety of duties which may often change; work within standards of accuracy; repeat tasks of short duration according to a set procedure; evaluate information using measurable standards. Minimum of Class B Driver’s license with Haz-Mat and Tanker endorsements. Ability to provide and maintain proper license and acceptable driving record.

Education and Experience:

High school diploma preferred and on-the-job training required. Two plus years of oiler/lube technician experience – preferably with knowledge of heavy equipment. Must provide proper tooling necessary to complete daily job tasks.

Responsibilities and Duties:

  • Servicing various types of heavy construction equipment;

  • Checking and maintaining proper fluid levels for various compartments including engine, hydraulics, transmission, etc.;

  • Proper handling of successfully-collected fluid samples for analysis;

  • Accurate record-keeping of all daily tasks via computer and/or paper transactions;

  • Completing all daily paperwork required for DOT;

  • Monitoring and maintaining inventories of fuel, oil, filters, etc.;

  • Visual inspections of machines and reporting conditions/deficiencies;

  • Compliance with all safety and environmental requirements

Safety Considerations:

Employee performs all work in the field. Employee must be able to stand or walk for long periods; use arms and hands to reach for, handle, and manipulate objects; lift and carry materials weighing 50 to 80 pounds; climb up and down ladders, scaffolds, and other objects and carry tools and equipment; stoop, kneel, crouch, and crawl, and see (naturally or with correction). Employee will be exposed to temperature extremes (both heat and cold) and must wear personal protective equipment to include hard hat, boots, gloves, safety glasses and similar. Employee will be required to drive company vehicle and must have valid driver’s license, good driving record and be approved to drive vehicle prior to driving. If vehicle meets requirements for CDL license, employee must have valid CDL license and medical certificate and must pass DOT background check prior to being approved to drive.
